The Affinity suite of apps, which includes Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher, has become known as an excellent alternative to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. But there’s a lot going on behind the scenes, as Serif – the company behind the Affinity apps – has now been acquired by Canva in a multi-million dollar deal.

Serif announced on Wednesday a major update coming to the entire Affinity suite of apps, which includes the popular Affinity Photo image editor, the Affinity Designer graphic vector design software, and the Affinity Publisher page layout software. With the update, the apps now work with dozens of new cameras and also get 32-bit HDR support.

Developer Serif teased a major overhaul for its Affinity creative suite last week and today V2 of the software is officially available. Arriving with a totally redesigned UI with “hundreds of performance enhancements and workflow improvements,” Affinity V2 aims to be “everything you want in a creative suite.”

Affinity teases major update set to bring ‘everything you want in a creative suite’

Serif, makers of the popular Affinity creative suite has shared that it has “something big” coming on November 9. What it’s calling “the next level creative experience” is set to see the Affinity apps redesigned and refined with hundreds of enhancements and “incredible new features” including something Affinity customers have been asking for.

Affinity announced today that its three popular content creation apps are being updated to version 1.10. Photo, Designer, and Publisher are receiving a boost in performance in their respective Mac apps.

According to the blog post, this update is making some tasks up to 10 times quicker. For example, with Affinity Publisher, a complete rewrite of memory management now enables huge documents to offer instant loading times, smooth live editing, and super-fast scroll.

Significant Affinity updates are landing today across the company’s Photo, Designer, and Publisher apps on Mac, iPad, and Windows.

The company says version 1.9 of the creative suite is faster, takes the app’s non-destructive workflow to the next level, and enables significantly easier collaboration between remote workers…

With macOS Big Sur landing today and Apple Silicon Macs arriving to customers by November 17, it’s awesome to see developers releasing updates to offer support for both. And of course that means impressive performance gains with the first M1 Macs. Affinity is out today with new versions of all of its Mac apps to take advantage of Apple’s latest software and hardware.

Affinity Publisher beta for Mac slated to arrive before end of August

Affinity Publisher is an upcoming desktop publishing app that many are hoping will serve as legitimate Adobe InDesign alternative, much like sister apps Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer have served as viable alternatives to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Lost amid the shuffle of today’s release of Designer for iPad, developer Serif says that the Publisher beta will arrive before the end of August.

With the resounding success and universal praise heaped upon last year’s launch of Affinity Photo for the iPad, it was only a matter of time before its companion app, the popular vector illustration tool, Affinity Designer, was brought to the platform.

Serif, the company behind such apps as Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo, has made a significant splash over the last few years with apps aimed at creative professionals. What makes apps like Affinity Designer so appealing is that they can be purchased for a flat cost without a subscription, and can function as an outright replacement for the equivalent software under Adobe’s Creative Cloud umbrella.

Despite the success of apps like Affinity Photo — the iPad version just won Apple’s app of the year award — Serif isn’t resting on its laurels.
