Invincible season 3 will feature the return of an underused season 2 character. Adapted from the Robert Kirkman comics of the same name, Invincible has a massive cast. While Mark Grayson/Invincible (Steven Yeun) is always at the forefront of the story, the superheroes, supervillains, and everyday people in his life are also vital to the overarching narrative of the Prime Video series. Invincible season 3 will keep the primary focus on Mark while also continuing to explore Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins), Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen), and other vital characters.

Even after Mark seemingly defeats a supervillain for good, Invincible's characters rarely disappear from the show. The Invincible season 1 ending teased the return of numerous villains Mark faced, including Doc Seismic (Chris Diamantopoulos) and the Sequids, and this tease paid off with many of these villains returning in season 2. This approach extends to other characters as well and will continue in season 3 with the return of a particularly underutilized character.
Darkwing Will Return In Invincible Season 3
Darkwing Is Still Dead, But Darkwing II Is Back

The Invincible season 3 trailer features the return of Darkwing, or more accurately, Darkwing II (Cleveland Berto). The original Darkwing (Lennie James) was a member of the original Guardians of the Globe and was betrayed and murdered by Omni-Man in Invincible's first episode. Darkwing is a parody of DC's Batman and the defender of Midnight City. In Invincible season 2, Mark encounters the original Darkwing's assistant, Night Boy, who has now taken up Darkwing's mantle.
Darkwing II is more of a vigilante than a superhero who has no qualms about murdering suspected criminals as the self-anointed protector of Midnight City. Mark defeats Darkwing II before the character's access to the mysterious Shadowverse can be fully explored, and he is sidelined from the rest of season 2. That looks to be amended in season 3 as Darkwing II is back in action, and he will likely create new problems for Mark and the current Guardians of the Globe roster.

What Darkwing's Role In Invincible Season 3 Could Be
He Will Likely Play Into Cecil's Conflict With Mark
Darkwing II's season 3 role may be connected to Cecil, who is shown to now be an antagonist for Mark. Cecil is deploying the Reanimen cyborgs and other dangerous resources at the Global Defense Agency's disposal against Mark. Since Darkwing II was taken in by the Global Defense Agency after Mark defeated him, he may be another dangerous individual that Cecil unleashes. This will lead to another fight between Darkwing II and Mark, and it may be more difficult this time now that Darkwing II will have further honed his Shadowverse abilities.

Invincible Season 3 Hypes Villain 10x Worse Than Season 2's Viltrumite
The first details about Invincible season 3 have been outlined, with the show teasing a villain much worse than season 2’ Viltrumite, Anissa.
In the comics, Darkwing II is considered reformed and saves other characters from Doc Seismic by fighting alongside the Reanimen. Since the official Invincible season 3 poster and trailer highlight Cecil's use of the Reanimen against Mark, Cecil using Darkwing II as a weapon to fight Mark seems likely to happen in the Prime Video series as well. Mark will have his hands full in Invincible season 3 contending with Darkwing II, the Reanimen, and everything else Cecil throws at him.

Mark goes on to develop superhuman abilities, but he must also learn that his father's legacy isn't as glitzy and glamorous as he's been led to believe.
