The Spanish verbconseguircan mean to get, to obtain or to achieve, depending on the context. For example:Debo conseguir una beca(I must get/obtain a scholarship), andElla siempre consigue sus metas(She always achieves her goals). You can also note that the verb conseguir is simply the verbseguir (to follow)with the prefixcon. So if you can conjugateseguir, simply add the prefixconand you have the perfect conseguir conjugation. Below you will find tables with conjugations in present, past and future indicative, present and past subjunctive, imperative and other verb forms.

Conseguiris an -ir verb, but it is also a stem-changing verb. Normally, to conjugate a regular -ir verb you simply drop the -ir and add the appropriate ending. In stem-changing verbs, the endings are the same as regular verbs, but there is a change in the root or stem of the verb for all of the conjugations of the present tense indicative exceptnosotrosandvosotros, as well as the third person preterit forms. The stem-change for this verb is e to i. For example, the first person present tense conjugation of conseguirisconsigo. As you can see, the e in the verb stem changes to an i.

When conjugatingconseguiryou also have to be careful with a spelling change that occurs with the letter g. The letter g has a hard sound as ingatowhen it is followed by the vowels a, o or u, and it has a soft sound as ingente (similar to the English h sound) when it is followed by the vowels e or i. Whenconjugatingconseguir, for some conjugations the spelling changes from g to gu in order to maintainthe hard g sound, as inconsigoversusconsigues.

Here you will find the verb conjugations forconseguirin the indicative mood (present, preterite, imperfect, future, periphrastic future and conditional), subjunctive mood (present and past), imperfect mood, as well as other verb forms such as the present and past participles.

    Conseguir Present Indicative

When you conjugate the presenttense, remember the stem-change e to i for all the conjugations exceptnosotrosandvosotros.

Usted/él/ellaconsigueYou/he/she getsElla consigue los ingredientes para la cena.
Nosotrosconseguimos We getNosotros conseguimos las herramientas.
VosotrosconseguísYou getVosotros conseguís las frutas para el desayuno.
Ustedes/ellos/ellas consiguenYou/they getEllos consiguen un libro interesante.

    Conseguir PreteriteIndicative

When conjugating the preterite, remember to change the stem e to i for the third person conjugations (both singular and plural).

    Conseguir ImperfectIndicative

There is no stem-change in the imperfect tense. Just remember that the imperfect endings for -ir verbs all have an accent on the í. Also remember that the imperfect can be translated to English as "I used to get" or "I was getting".

YoconseguíaI used to getYo conseguía los materiales para el proyecto.
conseguíasYou used to getTú conseguías buenas notas en tus clases.

    Conseguir Present Progressive/Gerund form

To form the present progressive tense, you need the present tense conjugation of the verb estar, followed by the presentparticiple (gerundioin Spanish). For -ir verbs, the present participle is formed with the ending-iendo.

    Present Progressive ofConseguir:está consiguiendo

She is getting. ->Ella está consiguiendo los materiales.

    Conseguir Past Participle

To form the past participle of -ir verbs, simply drop the ending and add -ido. The past participle is used for the compound tenses such as present perfect. For the present perfect, conjugate the verbhaberin the present indicative tense, followed by the past participle.

    Present Perfect ofConseguir:ha conseguido

She has gotten ->Ella ha conseguido los materiales.

    Conseguir Present Subjunctive

Sentences using the subjunctive mood include two different clauses.Remember that to conjugate the subjunctive form, you start with the first person singular (yo) present indicative conjugation, drop the ending, and add the subjunctive ending. Since there is a stem change in the first person singular conjugation (yo consigo),then all of the subjunctive conjugations will have the stem-change as well.

    Conseguir ImperfectSubjunctive

Remember that there are two forms of the imperfect subjunctive, which are equally valid.

    Option 1

Que yoconsiguiera That I gotJuan quería que yo consiguiera los materiales para el proyecto.
Que túconsiguierasThat you gotMaría quería que tú consiguieras buenas notas en tus clases.

Que vosotrosconsiguieseisThat you gotEsteban quería que vosotros consiguieseis las frutas para el desayuno.
Que ustedes/ellos/ellas consiguiesenThat you/they gotFelicia quería que ellos consiguiesen un libro interesante.
