Went for a spray tan against the advice of two reviews on Yelp...the tech was very professional, although she didn’t use barrier cream for hands and feet, which are now dark orange. The floor of the room hadn’t been cleaned, so the bottoms of my feet ended up dark from stepping on the damp old tan solution from the previous client, even before I had a chance to put the sticky feet on. Worst part is I’m Orange. I usually use St. Tropez self tanner which is green based, works great but it’s hard to get the whole body. Thought since this place uses “organic” and tan formulas have come a long way (?) I thought I’d be ok. Nope. I have 3 days until my event ... hoping it will fade by then :( Read Less

Extremely extremely upsetting. I asked my stylist to be very careful (I am super nervous with cutting my hair and I have my engagement photos in 3 weeks and have been working super hard to grow it out) and asked her to barely cut half an inch. She somehow translated that to 2+ inches and I feel like my hair is gone. Left the place crying when I wanted to go get my hair done to feel better about myself. My usual stylist (who I LOVE) and NOT at this salon was fully booked today... and it was a last minute whim thing since I was going out to dinner tonight. I felt bad and didn’t know what to do so I waited until I was home to call the salon. I very polity told them how upset I was and confused as to how that happened when I literally expressed my concerns of how nervous I am with stylists getting “scissor happy” And I literally was told oh well at this point there’s nothing we can do about it. The girl on the phone was nice but that was a horrible answer. Definitely never returning and I learned my lesson and waiting for my usual stylist next time no matter WHAT. HORRIBLE. do NOT GO HERE FOR A HAIR CUT!!!!!!!!!!!! I said to cut half an inch and the lady cut almost 3. I am SO upset I have been going every 3 monthsgetting trims so my hair isn’t dead. She went scissor crazy and cut so much off. I am so insanely upset. I have my engagement photos in 3 weeks and my hair is gone. Absolutely livid is an undedstament. I have been here twice- the only times I have ever gone anywhere for blow outs as I had special events. I felt like I was bothering the stylists by being there and they were just rushing me out the door. I explained I have thin hair so I needed a bit more hair spray and asked if they could tease it a little to give volume. I did not get any teasing and barely any hairspray. I could have honestly done my hair better myself. The stylists seem more concerned with chatting with one another than doing hair. I will not be back. Read Less

I would give this salon a 0 if I could. Extremely poor management. Employees look miserable. Bad customer service. Does anyone follow their salon on Instagram? The owner promotes her business by taking a thousand pictures of herself. Don't waste your time or money going there, you will be unhappy with the entire experience from the moment you walk in. So I have been seeing Melissa for a few years as she has been doing my moms hair for about 12 years. This time I came in to see her (all the way from Brooklyn) and the salon is a really beautiful spot. I was going from vibrant red to pastel silver and I couldn't be more pleased. It was an all day job but Melissa and everyone else in the salon helped me feel comfortable and kept me from being bored while I waited for the bleach to do its magic on my hair. I brought in my own silver product called Overtone to use and it went as well as it could have possibly gone. I had such a wonderful experience at the salon and highly recommend it. Melissa works wonders and listens to what you want. I knew my change was going to be hard but she took it on with confidence and did my hair justice. So happy!! I now have gorgeous silver locks and my hair isn't very damaged at all. It still feels really strong and looks extremely healthy! I can't thank you enough Melissa! Read Less

I gave myself the whole day to let my experience marinate and if at the end of the day I was still upset, then I would write my review. So here I go..I called yesterday to get a blow out, this was for a special occasion of getting family photos taken and I rarely get a blow out other then when I get a haircut by my stylist. Regular stylist wasn't in until 10am and I needed 8:30. I called, made an appt for myself. Was told it was $35. Ok. Called back and decided to bring my 3yr old girl along for some curls, girl on the phone told me $10-15 so I made an appt.I walk in at 8:30am, our stylist wasn't there yet so we waited for our two stylists to get finished doing each other's hair before they got to us. No problem but having an antsy three yr old and a photography appt, it was a little annoying. So they got to us, my daughter sat beautifully barely moved or said anything was literally done right as I got my hair washed. Got my hair washed, very quickly and when I say that, I don't think he conditioned my fine thin hair. Fast forward to him brushing my hair. I've never been thru this in my life (I'm 40 and used to work in the hair industry). I felt like I was going to leave with no hair from it being pulled out and I definitely left with a headache.Now to the finished product, flat. My daughter had no hair spray and while her curls were nice, her bang was flat before she even got off my lap to leave. I had to ask my stylist to hair spray her hair. Then my hair, I had to ask to give me some volume. Like, a back comb, tease...something. ANYTHING. Ugh. Whatever. He tried by asking the stylist next to him for a comb. I left with beach wave. It was fine, could have and will do it at home next time unless my normal stylist is available. Isn't a blow out salon supposed to give you volume, make you leave feeling coifed and ready to take on the day? I went to the other location 2 days prior and was extremely happy. Today in the Ridgewood location my stylist was super sweet but I asked for a round brush curl blowout with volume and she blow dried it pin straight with no volume. Not what I asked for at all. Consultations need work. Also the price is $29 for a blowout which I paid at the other salon which included a hot tool. Today was $35? Quite confused. Wouldn't return. Read Less

My worst nightmare came true.... I trusted someone to do a balayage on my hair and it turned to be a complete disaster... frantically I called a few salons in the area and came across Moxie in Ridgewood. The woman who answered the phone (front desk) was helpful, sweet, and soooo accommodating. She squeezed me in on a busy Friday with Melissa... let me tell you about Melissa.... she is a hair goddess!!! She asked me what I hated and what I loved about my current hair color, she took the time to educate me on how to take care of the new color, as well as assuring me she will do whatever it takes to make me happy. Called and got a last minute appointment for this evening. When I arrived the stylist that was supposed to do my hair had her own hair in foils and told the receptionist she couldn't cut mine (this is all happening in front of me too) the next stylist says "she doesn't cut short hair" (ok seriously I have the easiest "mom" cut) the third stylist said ok I'll cut your hair. She was nice and the cut was fine, but I paid $69 and didn't even have it blown out (my choice, I wanted to get home) but I will never go back after the ridiculous start to my appointment. I was not going to write a review but after a few days of thinking about it I must. First the male who did my hair was very sweet, I would give him 5 stars. However, the customer service was terrible. I work very hard all week long...I booked a keratin and wanted to relax and enjoy a nice atmosphere (my last experience was very nice). You would think I DID NOT even exist when I walked in...the person at the front was in the back talking and a stylist saw me come in BUT continued to play on her phone. I waited 5 minutes before someone came to check me in, the girl who washed my hair didn't event say a WORD to me...I had to ask her if I should sit...she then talked to another stylist the whole time about how bad she wanted to leave. When my hair was done...she got up and left me there???? I stood up and waiting by the entrance to salon area....she was sitting talking again and finally I had to ask the receptionist where I should go...my stylist then came and started the process. Again, he was fantastic. I want a professional atmosphere where I go someplace and pay money...the stylist next to us was having a VERY inappropriate convo with her client, and the other stylist made a very rude comment to me. I told MY stylist it hard for me to blow my hair out everyday because I have THREE small children and I own my own business...a 5year old and twins that are 1.5 year...she said to me "stop making excuses, I have 4 children". I was completely shocked and this is actually what made me write this review. I could not believe the level of rudeness in the salon..no one smiled or spoke unless you spoke to them, and they acted like they were doing ME a favor by being there. I will never go back again. Went there on Friday, at 3pm, for a color and keratin treatment. Absolutely blown away at the salon! They just redesigned and reopened and it's open and beautiful. I had Elvin as my stylist and she was such a treat. Very sweet and I enjoyed her talent and expertise. I have pretty long hair, although it's thin, and she had my color and keratin treatment all done and me out the door in 3 hours. Just in time to meet my fiance for a nice date night! We ended up doing a glaze instead of a permanent deposit on my root regrowth (which in past experience has faded at the root area pretty quickly and I've had to recolor within a week or two) but I have washed it since my treatment and there has been little to no fading of my color. I will definitely be back and, if you're a bride to be, check out their Glamour Loft for Event Parties. I'm looking into booking it for my wedding next May. If you're getting married at the Mount Carmel church, this is a block away and you can see the church from the window. Read Less

The blowout was fine, and just what I asked for, but the overall experience was awful and I will not return. It had been a while since I had visited this location, and the level of service - by the receptionist and others - was so low as to be almost non-existent. The fact that I had to wait 20 minutes even with an appointment (there were practically no other clients) was compounded by the condescending indifference of the receptionist. His unwillingness to honor an old package, for which I had the tracking card, because "it's not in the system," just seems like bad business practice for a salon that by all appearances is struggling to keep busy. The blowouts are decent, Eric Alt is 10,000 times better.The makeup, not so much. I paid $79 to come home and take off everything but the eye makeup. Told the esthetician the foundation wasn't my skintone and she disagreed with me. Wish I had taken a picture of when it was 1/2 off because it was a massive difference. ** A day after posting this review Moxie called me - they looked up people with my first name to see who had this service recently in their facility - totally over the line!! Who does that?!?! They asked if a discount on future services would make the situation better, and I said no (clearly I don't want them doing my makeup again), but I would like a refund.They just called back to let me know that they "will not be able to issue me a refund, but they can provide make-up services at their Fair Lawn location". Clearly the esthetician isn't the only person who doesn't listen when you speak.TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!!! Read Less

I usually see Melissa to do my hair. I absolutely love her and she does an amazing job. Unfortunately she was out of town during the time I needed to get my hair colored before going to my high school reunion. Although I was hesitant I needed to get it done so got an appointment with Tyler. Tyler did a great job. I probably scared him at first. I was adamant I did not want my brown hair to end up black or red. He was so respectful of my wishes and assured me that would not happen. He did a great job and was so nice. Went to have a blowout this morning. The "Jr. Stylist" really didn't know what she was doing. I showed her the picture of my haircut and how it needed to be styled, I have short hair and it's an easy style. I can tell by the way she didn't pull tight on the brush to get the lift in the roots that she was inexperianced. I asked how long she was doing hair (thinking about a month) and she said over 5 yrs! Well, it was super flat on top and I asked if she could do more lift. Well, she just slipped away and next thing I new the manager was teasing my hair... The manager was very nice and competent and my hair came out nice. What I didn't like is the unprofessional way that my stylist (name begins with an "M") never came back, never said goodby or tried to fix my hair. I won't be returning Read Less

I went here on nye morn to have my hair blown out and my makeup done. Not only was I told a cheaper price and that I specially asked not to be booked my a senior stylist they still did anyway (I called days prior to to make my appts) then proceeded to have my makeup done and the girls were friendly and great but I do not appreciate having elf cosmetics, no foundation primer or sealer a cheap eyebrow coloring elf I believe which didn't stay and by the time I got to my party most of my eyebrow had been smuggled away and foundation gone. I had a bag of more expensive longer lasting make up in my car I could have used. Day 3 and I have e still yet to receive a call back about management I am more perturbed that they booked me with senior stylist when I specifically asked them not to and they specifically told me they weren't. I'm not going to even go there on the pink stain that wasn't applied correctly which stained my entire upper lip for the night while I have people asking me if I just had my lip waxed.. really guys??? how about you guys try calling your customer service complaints back or they're just gonna leave unsavory yelp reviews. 135 for a blowout and makeup. I've been going to Moxie Ridgewood since November. I'm a weekly customer for amazing blowouts! Today I asked for a change and to go blonde, well I am more than happy with the results! Melanie went above and beyond and gave me the perfect color! Melanie and the rest of the moxie staff are friendly and most importantly honest about what will look good on you! I finally found my place! After searching different salons in the area, I decided to try Moxie, and made an appointment with Anthony based on all of his glowing yelp reviews. He squeezed me in at 6:00 on a Friday for color, hi lights and a hair cut. Anthony and the rest of the staff could not have been more hospitable. I felt so comfortable. The best part of the whole experience, I LOVE my hair. The color, the cut, I feel like I have a totally different look. The color is perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Smiling from ear to ear!!! Third time getting my hair done with Molly from Original Salon, she never ceases to amaze me!!! I asked for a certain color and look, showed photos of exactly what I wanted and she made my hair look exactly how I envisioned! Molly did such an amazing job and I am so pleased at how it came out.
