We made these Cheeseburger sliders for our daughter’s 5th birthday party and we loved not having to stand over the grill to make traditional burgers. I made them earlier in the day which was amazing and took the stress out of making food for a large crowd. The kids were crazy about these cute little hamburger sliders and they disappeared so fast!

P.S. You can easily cut this recipe exactly in half (keeping the baking instructions the same) to feed a smaller family.

The Best Rolls for Sliders:

To make these burger sliders, use a 24-pack of dinner rolls (or 2 smaller 12-packs). We love the King’s Hawaiian Roll brand for making sliders and our favorite flavors are original Hawaiian Sweet and Savory Butter. You can also use homemade dinner rolls.

The Best Ground Beef for Cheeseburger Sliders:

Stick with lean ground beef – either 90/10 (10% fat content) or 93/7 (7% fat content). You can use ground beef with a higher fat content if that is what you have on hand since you will be spooning out the extra fat and liquid.

Tips for Making Hamburger Sliders:

  • Spoon out the excess fat and liquid release from the beef so you don’t end up with soggy buns.
  • Lining the bottom buns with cheese and covering the beef with cheese seals in the juiciness of the beef without making the buns too moist.
  • Apply the sesame seeds as soon as you brush on the butter and they will stick better to the buns.
  • Bake uncovered so the rolls don’t sweat and become soggy.

Can I Make these Ahead?

Yes! Sliders can be pre-made even a day ahead then covered and refrigerated. If baking from chilled sliders, add an extra 3 minutes or so when baking, or until hot and the cheese is melted.

Sliders also reheat really well. To reheat sliders: microwave each slider uncovered 15-20 seconds or just until the beef is heated through and cheese is melted.

What to Serve with Sliders:

Sliders are so fun because they can be served as an appetizer, lunch, or main course for dinner. We keep it simple and serve sliders with chilled dill pickles. They are also amazing with Baked Potato Wedges. Because these have the classic profile of cheeseburgers, try dipping them into homemade burger sauces, or use your favorite condiments like ketchup, mayo, and mustard.

What makes a burger a slider? ›

History. The name "slider" is believed to have been first used to describe the onion-steamed small burgers at White Castle restaurants. The term has since been picked up by other restaurants, usually to describe a small hamburger, but sometimes used to describe any small sandwich made with a slider bun.

How much meat should be in a slider? ›

What size are cheeseburger sliders? This all depends on the size of the roll! This recipe uses just over a pound of ground beef (1.25 pounds to be exact) and makes 12 sliders. Plan on using about 1.5 to 2 ounces of meat per slider if you have a pound of meat.

How many sliders per person? ›

What sides go with cheeseburger sliders? ›

Cheeseburger sliders would be great with classic burger sides, including shoestring fries, onion rings, corn on the cob, or classic coleslaw. Or if they'll be on a menu with other appetizers, consider some favorites like deviled eggs, fried pickle chips, and jalapeño popper dip.

What is the difference between a slider and a regular burger? ›

Sliders are smaller than burgers and often contain less meat, but they are also more portable and more uncomplicated to eat. Burgers can be messy but are more filling and typically have more nuanced flavors.

What size patty for sliders? ›

What size are hamburger sliders? Each slider should be about 2 ounces and so you will get 8 sliders per pound of meat. Sliders should be uniform in size and thickness to ensure even cooking. I do this by adding all my meat to a bowl and pushing it down evenly, then scoring it into equal pieces.

Do sliders count as burgers? ›

The Slider: A Mini Hamburger with a Big History. The tiny, tasty, and oh-so-satisfying bite-sized burger that has been a staple of American fast food for generations.

How much pulled beef for 15 people? ›

To be on the safe side, I always round up and have at least a half pound of meat per person. This means if I'm serving 20 guests, I serve about 10 pounds of meat. It's important to note that how much meat you serve doesn't always equate to how much meat you buy. This is true for pulled pork and beef brisket.

How many sliders to feed 30 people? ›

If you use a package of 24 slider rolls, and you are serving this at a party with lots of other food and side dishes, I would count on 1 to 2 sliders per person. If this is dinner for your family, you might want to bank on 3 sliders per person.

Are sliders healthier than burgers? ›

The food has a unique ability to be both a great fast food option and for higher quality burgers, a good option at a sit-down restaurant. Ironically, burgers may be the healthier option though. This is because only one patty is used to make these whereas sliders are usually served in groups.

Why are my sliders soggy on the bottom? ›

Why are my sliders soggy on the bottom? Your sliders are probably soggy because the sauce soaked into the buns. To avoid this problem, we toast the bottom buns in the oven for a few minutes. This helps to keep the bottom bun sturdy and avoid that soggy bottom.
