Me too, so I wanted to make these myself, sorry Reese’s, I think it is cheaper and it’s lovely to get rid of the GMO’s (which are in Reese’s) as well :)
I adapted this easy peasy recipe with a few changes from Joy Of Baking, Stephanie Jaworski is so inspiring!

Let’s do it!

  • Prep Time 20 minutes
  • Baking Time has to be chilled in refrigerator
  • Difficulty Easy
  • Servings ca. 24 or more

For the Peanut Butter Mix:

  • 1/2 cup (125 grams) creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons (28 grams) butter, room temperature
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (55 grams) powdered sugar, sifted
  • For the Chocolate Coating:

  • 9 ounces (260 grams) semi sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 9 ounces (260 grams) milk chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon (10 grams) shortening
  • OR:

  • In case you have candy melts at home, this is what I used – it is even faster just to heat these up (and I like the taste).
  • Candy Melts (for example pink, white and brown)
  • mini cupcake paper cups/liners
  • Mini Cupcake Pan (24)
  • 1. Line your mini cupcake pan with your favorite paper liners.
  • 2. Now place the butter, peanut butter and salt in a microwave safe bowl and heat in microwave for about 30-45 seconds (stir every 15 seconds).
  • 3. Now pour in the powdered sugar and stir well.
  • 4. Melt the chocolates (or candy melts on its own) with vegetable oil or shortening in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water.
  • 5. Now take a teaspoon and spoon about 1 tsp. of the melted chocolate into each of the mini paper cups. To make the chocolate smooth and even, tap the pan gently on your counter.

  • 6. Now you can add a little bit less than a teaspoon of the peanut butter mixture in each paper cup, on top of the chocolate.
  • 7. Repeat the chocolate step: a little bit of chocolate on top of the peanut butter layer.
  • 8. Tap the pan again so the chocolate/peanut butter cups are smooth and even.
  • 9. Now you can refrigerate them for about 30 minutes. You can store the cups in airtight containers.

Depending on the holiday, you can also use red or green (or both) candy melts to make it look festive for Christmas :)

For my dearest friend Therke’s graduation from college, I made these Graduation Cap Pops using my peanut buter cups and inserted sticks in them.

How did I make these?
Here is a pictorial for you guys, so you can see every step:

The sticks go into the cups while the chocolate is still runny of course. For the base I used “After Eight” mint candy, since I did not have the time to make chocolate squares myself. You see: It is always worth it to have your eyes wide open when you are walking through the “candy aisle” in the grocery store. You will always find something for decorating.

In case you want to make these or the regular peanut butter cups, please show me a photo and post it to my Facebook Wall and I will put it in my blogreader’s album on Facebook. Would love to see what YOU make.

Love,
niner

      Liebe Lisa,
es tut mir leid, das ich mich jetzt erst zurück melde. Happy New Year!
Die Cups sind definitiv über 1 Woche haltbar, wenn nicht noch länger.
Diese kannst du ja auch zu anderen Feiertagen zaubern, z.B. in rot/braun für Valentinstag :)
      Liebe Grüße,
      niner

      Hi Samah,
this recipe calls for the powdered sugar and I recommend it. I never tried it without the sugar :)
      Happy New Year btw :)
