Win, and Kansas City moves into truly elite company. Few teams have ever won three Super Bowls during the span of five seasons.
This was supposed to be a down year for the Chiefs. It sure looked that way late in the year they lost four of six games following the bye week, netting only a No. 3 seed and needing to play two road games to reach a second straight Super Bowl.
It still didn't matter. The Chiefs beat the Bills for the third time in four years and then took down the Ravens, who had dominated most opponents they faced during the second half of the season.

Last five Super Bowl matchups by year
The Chiefs have played a lot of extra football in recent years. Following the 2019 season, Kansas City advanced past the Titans in the AFC championship to reach the franchise's first Super Bowl since 1969, which was Super Bowl 4.
Since then, the Chiefs have been to every AFC championship and only the Bengals have kept Kansas City from the last game of the season.

Mahomes has only lost to two quarterbacks in hispostseason career as a starter in Kansas City:Tom Brady and Joe Burrow. Brady beat the Chiefs in the 2019 AFC championship and the 2021 Super Bowl. Burrow beat the Chiefs in the 2022 AFC championship.
That is a near-unprecedented level of success, and a win would put the Chiefs in company shared only by Brady in recent years.

Most Super Bowl appearances in five-year span
The Super Bowl dates back to the 1966 season, with Super Bowl 1 featuring the Packers topping the Chiefs 35-10.
There have been no teams that have reached the Super Bowl in five straight years. But there have been a few teams that have reached the big game four times in a five-year span. The Chiefs became the third.

The early 1990s Bills are the only team in NFL history to reach the Super Bowl in four straight seasons. They also have the unfortunate distinction of being the only team in NFL history to lose four straight Super Bowls.
A win by the Chiefs would put Kansas City in the same company as the 2014-18 Patriots. New England reached the conference championship every year during that five-year stretch, losing only to the Peyton Manning-led Broncos in 2015.
The Mahomes-led Chiefs still have some work to do until they can fully match the 2010s Patriots. New England made it to the conference championship in eight straight seasons overall and reached the Super Bowl five times. Kansas City has made it to only six consecutive AFC championships.
There are different reasons why each run is impressive by each dynasty. The Patriots went on their impressive run when Brady was in his age-34-41 seasons. That's typically the time most players are either retired, close to retiring or well on the decline. The Chiefs' run has come during Mahomes' age-23-28 seasons in every year he's been a starter in the NFL.
Most Super Bowl wins in five-year span
Another win puts the Chiefs into rare air and joins them with the 2014-18 Patriots in another way. There have been a few more teams that have won three Super Bowls in a five-year stretch than teams that have appeared in four during the same time span.
Five teams have won three titles in a span of five years, though technically the 1970s Steelers had two overlapping streaks that included two titles. The Chiefs could be the sixth.

The Chiefs have a chance to join this exclusive list with another win. All those other dynasties eventually ran into a wall. Until someone topples the Chiefs, Kansas City has the chance to keep this dynasty rolling even longer.
