How do I create and change SmartArt? ›

Select the SmartArt Tools > Design tab. Hover over the Layouts to preview them, and select the one you want. Select Change Colors, hover over the options to preview them, and select the one you want. Hover over the SmartArt Styles to preview them, and select the one you want.

On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click SmartArt. In the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box, click the type and layout that you want. Enter your text by doing one of the following: Click [Text] in the Text pane, and then type your text.

SmartArt allows you to visually communicate your important ideas and information. For example, you can use SmartArt graphics to depict processes, hierarchies, relationships and so on. By using SmartArt to communicate information, you can create visually-appealing diagrams that can say so much more than words alone.

To change the hierarchy of shapes in a SmartArt graphic

On the Design tool tab, in the Create Graphic group, do either of the following: Click the Promote button to increase the level of the selected shape or list item. Click the Demote button to decrease the level of the selected shape or list item.

Organizing SmartArt from the Design tab

Just select the shape you want to modify, then choose the desired command. Promote and Demote: Use these commands to move a shape up or down between levels. Move Up and Move Down: Use these commands to change the order of shapes on the same level.

Click the SmartArt graphic that you want to break apart. Under SmartArt Tools, on the Design tab, in the Reset group, click Convert, and then click Convert to Shapes. If you do not see the SmartArt Tools or Design tabs, make sure that you have selected a SmartArt graphic.

With the graphic still selected, click SmartArt Tools – Design. Inside the SmartArt Styles gallery, click the Intense Effect style: (If you do not see this option, use the arrows to scroll through the gallery.)

Select your text. Select Home > Convert to SmartArt. Select More SmartArt Graphics and then select Picture. Select the SmartArt you want and select OK.

How do you edit text in SmartArt? ›

Use the Text pane to enter and edit the text that appears in your SmartArt graphic. The Text pane appears to the left of your SmartArt graphic. As you add and edit your content in the Text pane, your SmartArt graphic is automatically updated — shapes are added or removed as needed.

The Choose a SmartArt Graphic gallery displays all available layouts broken into eleven different types — All, List, Process, Cycle, Hierarchy, Relationship, Matrix, Pyramid, Picture, Office.com, and Other.

To change the SmartArt layout:

Select the SmartArt graphic, then select the Design tab. In the Layouts group, click the More drop-down arrow. Select the desired layout, or click More Layouts... to see even more SmartArt options. The selected layout will appear.

Under SmartArt Tools, on the Design tab, in the Reset group, click Convert, and then click Convert to Shapes. If you do not see the SmartArt Tools or Design tabs, make sure that you have selected a SmartArt graphic. You might have to double-click the shape to open the Design tab.

Select your text. Select Home > Convert to SmartArt. Select More SmartArt Graphics and then select Picture. Select the SmartArt you want and select OK.

With SmartArt, you can quickly convert text into a nice graphic. Select your text. Select Home > Convert to SmartArt. Select the SmartArt you want.
